A challenging environment for wireless controls

Background

Within chemistry, there are continual developments. Chemicals are improved, the production is different and more sustainable, waste chemicals are reused, processes get greened. These are all ingredients for renewal, sustainability, progress, and change. This, of course, also counts for Chemelot.

Chemelot is more than just an industrial park. It is a unique chemical and materials community that ensures accelerated business growth through the open exchange of ideas. Chemelot has been planned around one central idea: to bring together the knowledge and skills normally found only in major organizations, and to apply these within a flexible community of small and large chemical businesses, radically changing the view of the chemical industry.

Challenge

In this industry, it is fairly normal that lights burn 24 hours a day due to safety and security. The downside of this modus operandi is that costs on maintenance and energy consumption are high. Chemelot wanted a sustainable improvement and decided to turn every light into a smart light hence making the industrial site smart.

Solution

Chess’ partner Luminext provided Luminizer, their management system for outdoor light management, to control and manage the plant. Underneath the surface, Mymesh hardware was used to connect every light and to deliver the right data to Luminzer.

Benefits

Chemelot will enjoy 15 years of a sustainable lighting installation that works efficiently and properly. Thanks to Luminizer and Mymesh, all the smart ATEX-certified lights automatically adjust to the environment’s amount of light, saving Chemelot a lot on energy consumption and maintenance for the next 15 years.
